Character Design

I had the pleasure of taking an online character design course, earlier this year, with none other than brilliant designer, Stephen Silver. Here was my first assignment, Fat Joe, and the character description, was that of an old English bartender, during the first World War. You see here, the initial concepts, then a final.

Katie K-9

My wife and I occasionally listen to Katie K-9, on FM 107. She gives dog advice. I found a pic of her, and said wow, gotta draw her!

Life Drawing

I started attending The Atelier, in Minneapolis. Great opportunity to really study the figure, in the classic sense, with some great one-on-one instruction. We are doing sustained poses, over 4 sessions. Here is my first one.

Memory Marlon and a Joker

Did a sketch from memory of Marlon Brando, after watching his brilliant performance from Apocalypse Now (Redux). I had taken an online course this past summer, with Stephen Silver, and he talks about memory sketching all the time. I think its a great excercize, and I would like to try more of it.

Also, a Heath Joker (marker and colored pencil).

More Marlon

If anyone cares, my good friend and fellow artist, Zack Wallenfang, started drawing Elvis everyday, just to keep himself drawing. I thought that was a great idea, and was inspired to draw Marlon Brando everday. Well, drawing him everday got boring, so I drew him whenever. Point here is that sometimes, I get a good one, which I would like to share here - enjoy!

More stuff

Here are a few more from the sketchbook, done in between live drawings, out at the new Nickelodean Universe. Also, a live drawing I liked. I think it was the attitude this kid had, I thought I captured.

I’m Back from St. Louis!

Have not posted in a few days, because I was away at the NCN St. Louis Minicon. I had a blast!
Attaching here, a photo of my art wall, which unfortunately did not turn out to well, but you get the idea.
Inspiration abounds at these things, and if you have any desire or passion for the art of caricature, you HAVE to go.
I am also attaching here, two caricatures of myself, done at the minicon. One by Los Angeles-based cartoonist, Meesimo. The other, by Japanese artist, Ima! I love them. Also through in quickie sketch of Jerry Seinfeld, for sh**s and giggles.

I got a private email asking me to see more Javier. It just so happens that I did another,
and I am posting that here, though the first sketch is my fave.
Again, this guy is just loads of fun to draw!
